Hola! I'm glad to know I've captured your interest, allow me to introduce myself.
My name is Alanis Joan Flores Rosado, but I go by Nanii. I journey this life with an open heart, guided by the purpose of being a birth keeper as a student midwife and doula during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. At 21, I felt a deep calling to support and honor life, a calling that has transformed me, and today I share it with you through “The Calling to Maternity.”
Since my adolescence, I understood the importance of looking within and seeking the healing I so deeply needed. Spirituality came into my life at 18, guided by my father, I began to explore the world of ancestral medicine and spiritual practices. At 20, ancestral medicine brought me back to Puerto Rico and reconnected me with my roots and lineage. It was not easy! I faced my shadows, but I also found the strength to shed my old skin, a continuous process.
At 21, I went through a deep healing process where, for the first time, I heard the call to maternity. It was a calling to mother myself, to heal my relationship with my mother, to reconnect with my inner child, and shed some light for her. A calling that awakened my desire to accompany other women in their journeys, to honor pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period with love and consciousness. However, it wasn’t until I was 23 that I decided to act upon it.
For me, this calling is reconciliation with my feminine lineage. It is a path of self-discovery and deep transformation, preparing myself so that one day I too may bring life into the world.
“The Calling to Maternity” is born from my desire to share this journey, to create a space where we can remember together how to nurture and protect the waters that create life, and to celebrate life in harmony with Mother Earth and the Creator.
I also wish to share my journey as a student midwife enrolled in a modernized program, recognizing that life is fragile and that, although we as women have the full capacity to create, sustain, and birth life, we can also integrate science and modern medicine to support our processes, without guilt and judgment!
Here you will find my writings, resources, and support for those who feel the call to heal, to mother (themselves), and who desire support on their own path. This space is an invitation to walk together, to honor life, and to support each other in community as we remember the power and beauty of being a woman.
Have you also felt this calling? If so, this space is for you.
And as a maiden, I begin this page, recognizing that one day I will assume the role of mother, and eventually, that of the wise elder.
With love, gratitude, and devotion,
Nanii
